Encaustic collage Best Friends from my Traveller Series.
The Traveller Series reminds me of old world traveller journals. Those who were discovering new worlds, people, things and creating beautifully drawn informative journals to capture this new experience. Each collection tells a story and brings these old forgotten components together to live a new life.
This piece includes: Vintage photo, stamp, button, and hand engraved pocket watch part from 1800’s, dried hydrangea flowers , india ink, encaustics medium, and wood substrate made from fir tree root plate.
The substrates used in this series are made from the Fir tree roots left over from the logging industry. There was a company that took these roots and turned them into beautiful plates and bowls. I found these plates, well seasoned, and thought they would be amazing to make art on. I just love deep rich wood. The colors are earthy and grounding and always fit any space.
