Dapple Series 6

$225.00

Encaustic collage:

1860’s French ephemera, beach wood, ginkgo and Japanese maple leaves, alcohol inks, encaustic wax, and wood substrate.

15”x15”x1.25”

The Dapple Series plays with color, application and light. Each piece is built on a recycled wood substrate. The first step in this piece was to adhere antique French ephemera, from 1860’s. Once those were in place I used alcohol inks and dappled ink and played with color combinations. When the color and composition felt right I added encaustic medium over the entire surface. After that I used my found flora and fauna as added organic elements to bring yet another dimension to the piece. These are wired into place, so they are very secure. I will on occasion use glue first to get them to sit still, so I can wire them down. The back of each piece is covered with vintage photo album paper, black. And then has recycled canvas stretcher bars cut into small sections and glued to backing. These where added to lift the piece off the wall and add more dimension and shadow. Lastly each piece is finished with strong wire for hanging, wired to substrate, and rubber feet to keep piece from sliding and from marring wall. I hope you enjoy them.
